Effective: 19 May 2025
If you’re starting a new plan after this date (or your plan has been reassessed), your funding might now be released in smaller chunks instead of all at once.
Goal: Help you budget more easily, spread your supports evenly, and avoid funding gaps.
📝 Quick facts
- Total funding stays the same – only the timing changes.
- Funds may be released:
- Quarterly – every 3 months (most supports)
- Monthly – for high-cost ongoing supports (e.g. SIL)
- Up Front – for one-off items (e.g. assistive technology)
- Unused funds roll over to the next period (within the same plan).
💡 Why this change?
For example, a plan manager can:
- Many participants find it hard to make funds last when they’re all given upfront.
- Smaller, regular instalments can:
- Reduce overspending risks
- Keep funding available all year
- Make planning easier
📅 What it means for you
- Your NDIS planner will help decide the best funding period for you.
- They’ll consider:aller, regular instalments can:
- Reduce overspending risks
- Keep funding available all year
- Make planning easier
🔍 How to check your funding
You can view your funding periods:
- In your plan document
- On the my NDIS app
- Via the participant portal
You’ll see:
- Total available
- How much you’ve spent
- When your next release happens
Tip: Your plan manager or support coordinator can also see this if you give consent.
✅ If you have leftover funds
Example:
- You get $3,000 per quarter for OT.
- You spend $1,500 in the first quarter.
- Next quarter = $4,500 available.
⚠️ Any unspent funds at the end of your plan do not roll over to a new plan.
⚠️ If you run out early
- You can only use current and leftover funds from the previous period.
- You can’t take from future periods early.
- If this happens often, talk to your planner or Support Coordinator.
👩⚕️ For providers
- Claims must match the participant’s funding period.
- If a service crosses multiple periods, submit separate claims.
- Always check funding details before providing services.
💬 Bottom Line: This change is designed to give you steady access to your NDIS funds, helping you feel confident and in control for the whole life of your plan.
